• Reach a maximum of 25 km/h assisted speed. This does not mean that the cyclist cannot exceed this speed, but he/she must do it by his/her own means, without the help of the electric motor.
• The motor must be activated by pedaling. The motor of electric bicycles is only activated when pedaling. Models with throttle are not considered electric bikes, but L1e-B mopeds.

Is a driver’s license required?

The answer is no. You do not need any special license to ride these bikes. The DGT’s Explanatory Instruction states that, in addition, no registration, homologation or insurance is required.

Finally, your bicycle must have a red reflector (a signaling element that reflects incoming light).

Where can I ride my electric bicycle?

Something that you must keep in mind from now on is that you cannot drive these vehicles on sidewalks, pedestrian areas, interurban roads, highways or crossings.

On the other hand, if the competent officers deem it necessary, they may ask you to take a breathalyzer test, the rates of which are the same as those set forth in the Road Safety Law.
